ABEC is organised by Engineers Australia, the conference aims to provide an international forum for researchers, industry practitioners, engineers, postgraduate scholars and industry managers.
ABEC is the major conference for the College of Biomedical Engineers within Engineers Australia (EA) and the Society for Medical and Biological Engineering (SMBE). EA is the national forum for the advancement of engineering and the professional development of our members. With more than 100,000 members embracing all disciplines of the engineering team, EA is the largest and most diverse professional body for engineers in Australia.
The College of Biomedical Engineers is for members of EA who work closely with medical practitioners, health-industry professional, and vehicle and safety equipment manufacturers to enhance human life.
Formed in 1960, the SMBE (Vic) Inc. membership includes engineers, company representatives, medical specialists, scientists, technicians, radiographers, nurses, research workers, students and generally, people who have an interest in the field and its contribution to the advancement of health care.
Engineers Australia’s College of Biomedical Engineers and SMBE recognise the diverse nature of the work of Biomedical Engineers and celebrates this through ABEC. ABEC 2020 brought together all branches of Biomedical Engineering into one conference to focus on the role engineering has to play in improving health care outcomes.
